While this concept is hard to grasp, since we only know of 1 person (body) has 1 soul or essence (the intrinsic nature or indispensable quality of something, that determines its character), try to imagine SHADOW CLONE JUTSU where there are multiple persons (bodies) of Naruto but they all share one essence! One essence (or in layman's terms, what make Naruto, Naruto) but multiple persons/bodies. Now with God, he has 1 divine essence but split into 3 persons, for a specific role, however each person is not confined to a physical body/space. ***Removes nerdy glasses***

TLDR: We have ONE God who takes on 3 roles as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
